About Deven Hurku

The talented Durban based designer and entrepreneur, Deven Hurku, has been in the fashion industry for more than 25 years working both in private business and empowering the community. “My passion for fashion started when I was 12 years old. I would find myself always sketching garments at the back of all my exercise books. I had a grandma who also sewed as a hobby. Whenever she was out of sight I would pull out her bed sheets and towels and try to cut something out of it to stitch. Which often ended up in a disaster. I had no idea how to make the garment to perfectly fit me but I never gave up.” After matriculating, Deven studied fashion design. Today Deven is a sought after designer who is in demand both locally and internationally. She has persevered and worked hard to make a career out of her “passion for fashion and continues to do so through her label “Get Elevated”.
